ABOUT
His single "Paper Cigarette" captures the intoxicating pull of Parisian nights, delving into themes of desire and emotional distance. The track was recorded with Shakey Graves producer Chris "Boo" Boosahda (RIAA Gold-certified) and co-produced by Jonathan Tyler of The Northern Lights, whose credits include work with Nikki Lane, Paul Cauthen, and Reckless Kelly. John Michael of Night Glitter provides bass guitar.
"New York Girl" exists in that liminal space where the night is already over but hasn't yet begun—a cracked mirror, half-finished makeup, a woman already fading. Recorded live in Austin, Texas with members of The Mellows, the single was captured in one raw take with no overdubs or filters. The result is gritty, intimate lo-fi folk that lives somewhere between Daniel Johnston's warbled authenticity, early White Stripes' raw tenderness, and Leonard Cohen's deadpan melancholy.
"Hey Lady" offers a stark portrait of a prairie woman dulled by addiction and imprisoned by silence, desperately searching for escape. Erica Maier of The Garrys contributes haunting lead guitar and harmonies, while Lucas Goetz (formerly of Deep Dark Woods) drives the rhythm on drums and lap steel, and Chris Mason (also ex-Deep Dark Woods) anchors the sound on bass.
Klein's previous album, Jesse's Hotel—featuring Leot Hanson of The Sheepdogs—achieved underground acclaim and earned a nomination at the Saskatchewan Music Awards. Songs like "Sunshine," a lament for lost love, and "What's My Name," which explores memory, disconnection, and emotional scars, reveal the untamed landscape of the heart.
